TLOAT 4- creating the animation, final changes

| 0 comments

I decided that I’d make these changes to my animation before starting it;

  1. Longer overall- gives audience more time to get to know the characters; emotional response will be better if they feel a genuine connection.
  2. add establishing shots showing the passing of time (decided in an editing workshop after a classmate expressed that it was difficult to comprehend the changes in time)
  3. slight change in middle aged Wixly’s hue- more yellow

I had 33 scenes to animate, and 33 days to do it. I worked out a schedule that would allow me to complete my work with time at the end to make any final changes;

I also took note of the things I needed to keep consistent. I split the animation process into 3 parts; the scenes that would take longest/the hardest ones, scenes that were simple in execution but would take a while to complete, easier scenes that would take a short amount of time and the easiest scenes where I could complete multiple in one day. I planned to spend a day each on the hardest/longest scenes, and then aim to complete 3 easy scenes a day once I was done with them.

I categorized the harder scenes based on what skills I’d need for them; for example I wasn’t so sure on how to do tweening, So I included most tweening scenes in ‘hardest’ as I’d need to overcome the learning curve before completing the scene. As I worked with the tools needed for these scenes, I gradually came to understand them; I managed to pick up some new skills too, such as the capture tool which I used for smoke, as it allowed tweening with a less linear path of motion.

I managed to finish up everything by the 31st of may, in time for our final interim session. I received good responses upon presentation, with praise on my time management skills and effort to change things in accordance with my feedback. I still had to address some small errors, such as the flames clipping over the edges of the window sill, and create credits for my film.
